Default Engine Temps?

What does your engine run at? Mine runs at 150-160 at all times from what I have seen. This seems a bit low considering the mid temp on the guage is 210... Is my engine running too rich which is why I am using so much gas and which is also why my engine isnt running very hot?

You should be closer to 200. If it's around 150 the computer thinks is cold and sends more fuel.
Either you have a bad temp sender or a bad thermostat

I'm having the same problem. Mine sits around 140-160. I want to try to change my thermostat. But I think that i may be getting poor gas mileage becuase of it. Where is the engine temp sensor located?

The temp sensor should be in the front of the intake, the sender shold be in the cylinder head on the driver side

Mine sits dead at 200 all the time as soon as it gets to operating temp. Idle, WOT runs on the highway, burnouts....It never ever moves and I love it that way, the cooling system on the 4.3 is very, very efficient apparently.

Ok so whats the difference between the sender and the thermostat? Are you saying the guage in my dash could be wrong or my temp sensor on the engine head is wrong? What is this sensor you are talking about infront of the intake then? How hard is it to change the sensor on the engine head?

well the thermostat allows coolant to enter the intake when your eng temp reaches 195* or so. the sender is housed on the intake next too the thermostat, which is enclosed in its own housing where the top hose meets the eng. this is towards the front the eng. both are relativly easy to change. just make sure u drain ur coolant first!

I had the same problem last year replaced the t-stat and engine temps went back to normal for the 195* t-stat I installed.

I went and look at my intake. Are you guys talking about the black box thing on the intake after the intake box?
