Default Engine & Trans. Mounts>> Ok Replace Driver Side Only? & Is this trans. mount failed?

2002 4WD Blazer

Driver's side engine mount is failed and will be replaced with Energy Suspension Poly Mount. I'm thinking the passenger side mount may last longer since it's under compression (not tension like driver side). This will result in a minor height difference.

Has anyone had luck replacing just one side/ Is it a terrible idea to not replace both? There are plenty of other issues to focus on with the vehicle.

I took a video trying to assess if the transmission mount has failed due to the torsion, but it's difficult to tell. I don't know how long it's been driven since the motor mount failed (new to me). I guess I'll know for sure when I lift the engine, but would like to order the part before then. This video is the best angle I could get. And, ...oh, if you've never heard a rattling Cat, this is what it sounds like.

Thanks for having a look.

Yes, that transmission mount and both motor mounts need to be replaced.

Blazonaire I'm in the same boat as you as far as needing to replace my motor mounts and transmission mount on my '98 Jimmy V6 4x4, but I cannot for the life of me find the Energy Suspension motor mounts! Everything I have found is for the Pre '96 models. Would you by any chance have a part number to the ones you plan on using?

lazienza, I searched for the parts online by vehicle and came up with no listings anywhere. Then I found the online PDF catalog. The pic attachment shows all years, S-10 & K-5

I just talked to a guy over at Energy Suspension this morning and he says that the catalog is the "bible" and the website is secondary. He said it should work, but was hesitant to say definitely. Sounds like they try it on some years, but not every single year. He even asked around the office and no one had heard of any issues. I'm hoping to install in a few weeks and will post back here.

p/n in their catalog are on pg.20 http://energysuspension.com/assets/f...on-catalog.pdf
See snip below for all 4WD Blazer listings.

1996-2004 4WD Blazer S10-S15 4.3L 6 cyl.
Motor Mount: p/n 3.1144
Transm. Mount: p/n 3.1129

If anyone's tried these in a 2002 or 1998, or other years that weren't listed online, please let us know how it worked out, Thx.

fwiw, these are the 2 most helpful posts I've seen on replacement

Thanks! any reason for that other than common sense?

I just tested the passenger motor mount by stepping on the gas in reverse and there's absolutely no lift, so I might leave that side in for now. I guess I'll see how the first one goes in.

I'm hoping the rubber is better in compression than tension and it will last a bit longer.

I can definitely see where it would be a good idea to replace; if it failed in a fender bender or offroading it might cause damage to the driveline.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond in such an in depth manner! I suppose I could always order a set of the poly's and just have a factory set on standby if the poly mounts don't work out as planned.

Good luck on your project and let me know how it works out for you!

Replacing both will maintain correct drivetrain alignment. It will also make the new one last longer. Carefully watch the passenger side of your oil pan in the video.

How much does the engine have to be lifted to replace these?
