exaust Q's
Ok I have some exaust noise coming from the weld where the muffler goes to tail pipe. I know that with our inspections that will most likely fail unless I can find a way to hide it. I would rather change the exaust after the cat. I was wondering is it much cheaper to do exaust yourself or is a exaust shop a better bet? I was also wondering about the tailpipe. I know on some cars you have to have it on a lift to change them is that the case or is the bend in a place where you can get it over the axle while on the ground? Oh and heck heres another question how are Walker Quiet Flow 3 mufflers? They have a $50 rebate on them and Rockauto has them cheap. All parts from cat to muffler flange back are 143 shipped without the rebate, If I actually got the rebate it would only be $93 for muffler, muffler strap, flange gasket, tail pipe, two insulators, and clamp. I take it there is no resonator in this system.
Those parts are the non welded flange bolts to cat pipe and then tailpipe clamps onto muffler. I figured if I gotta cut the muffler our I might as well change the rusing tailpipe. How much is that flowmaster you have and do you see HP or MPG improvements with it?
The muffler cost $180 installed (welded). No muffler is going to give you a HP increase you can detect unless you dyno it to see it. 'Butt dynos' are deceiving
. I noticed no mpg change, but the sound sure was a lot nicer than stock since there was almost no sound with the stock set-up.

The main thing about a good aftermarket exhaust is that it allows an engine to better achieve its performance potential by not strangling its breathing.

I bought a cat from Autozone for $75 and a few muffler clamps and a few pipes for about $30 and bolted it on, it works good. AZ has alot of pre bent and flared pipes for bolting on andthey are cheap, you could make the whole exhaust system from what they have, I cut them with a sawsall and a metal cuting blade, I spent less that the $140 price I got from the shop for just the cat. I passed my smog testin Calif right after.
Yah I just called to some muffler shops around here for a cat back one wanted 450 and the other 400. I am definetly doing it myself but im going to wait until my inspection, if he doesnt notice it I wont change it. If I clean it up before the inspection its unlikely it will be caught unless it gets way louder by july. Yah Im pretty sure the cat is fine I didn't see or hear any leaks and the knock test is good.
Yah I plan on clearing my codes if I have any before going. The only code ive ever recieved was one for a random misfire but it only happened once and didnt come back yet. It will be more visually or audible that will fail me with this exaust.
