Default Floor/Defrost door problems

I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer and the floor heat doesn't work, I found out that whatever happened the door, that controls heat to the floor, defrost and blends, was stuck down so all I can get is defrost. Is there a way to remove that door (without taking the dash off) or does anyone have a method they've used to hold the door in the middle so I get both?

The air flow is controlled through a series of vacuum operated actuators and sounds like one of them has failed or the rotary vacuum switch in the control panel has failed.

I believe you should be able to reach the actuator by just removing the lower trim panels, but will likely need to remove the center console as well. There are three lower trim panels across the dash and I seem to remember that the driver's panel has to come off first to expose one screw for the center; the far right side can stay (doing this from memory...and it has been awhile since I have done this.)

Once the trim panels are off you can test the actuator to find-out if it has failed or there is no vacuum going to it. Now I do not remember if the dash has to come out to replace the actuator or not...been too long ago. But you will be able to determine what the problem is.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

My 2002 did the same thing. In my case, that door broke the hinge tabs off and the Dealer charged over $700.00 to pull the dash and heater box and replace the door. Yours could be something else, tho. If you search the forum, someone cut the heater box open and replaced the door without pulling the dash. Good luck.
