Default flushed dexcool, water pump?

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I recently flushed the cooling system in my 00 4x4 blazer, took out the dex cool and put in the green stuff, I also replaced the thermostat. About two to three days after I finished the flush, I started leaking heavy amounts of coolant while parked on my driveway. It looked like the coolant was coming from the water pump. I was wondering if flushing the dex cool and putting in the green stuff would cause the water pump to fail? or if it is just a gasket? The truck has 190k and I do not know if the water pump has ever been replaced before. Any suggestions/tips/etc would be appreciated.

The change of coolant would have no effect on the pump. I think it's just coincidence.

ah ok thanks, I heard that dex cool was used cause it helped dissipate heat more efficiently and that it also lubricated parts (such as the water pump) and that since the water pump lost that lubrication that it went bad. I already bought a new one and gotta replace it regardless, I just wanted to know if the flush had anything to do with it.

I recently made the switch to the green stuff. The engine was throwing a code that lead me to a failed thermostat. Replaced that and added the green and its worked beautifully since.

Flushed all our vehicles out starting in 2002 after replacing countless intake manifold gaskets & water pumps. Some vehicles were so caked-up, we couldn't drain the system through the radiator drain. We replaced (after flushing the system 5x) with green antifreeze. Never have replaced an intake manifold gasket or water pump since! These are company fleet vehicles, friends, family,& my own personal vehicles which we all still drive today. Thankfully i have a good friend that owns a radiator shop!

Ok, we have a thread devoted to this debate. READ through that ENTIRE thread and then post your "opinion" of what the issue is. No need to drag more threads down this rabbit hole. Besides, that petition doesn't have much to do with Dexcool...

Sorry I wasn't trying to spark up the debate, I was just trying to figure out if the flush caused the water pump to fail. I already replaced it (thanks to ravenhurst's tutorial here) and it doesn't leak and everything seems to be working fine.

ps. swartllk - You can lock this thread before it becomes a flame war if you want.

Glad you got it fixed. Seems like I have been snake bit by water pumps on cars all my life!
I don't think Kyle's post was directed toward you. You had a legitimate question.
