Default front axle stuck

I am trying to replace the left front axle in my 2000 blazer. I got everythng apart put the axle shaft will not release from the front differential. I have pried, hammered, pulled with vice grips, pulled some more, pried and hammered more. I have spend about 3 hours trying to get it out. Is there some trick to getting this thing to release? I have already given up and am getting ready to put it back together and take it to a shop. Any help would be appreciated.

Block of wood and a BFH usually does the trick.

I finally gave up on it. I will have to take it to a shop. I have never had an axle get stuck like that.

I got the axle out of my '02 by using a large...LARGE screwdriver and pryed between axle and differential...careful not to pry against the grease seal. Came out in within a minute.
Right side is quite different though with that tube....but it came out as well.

I did the right side last year and it came right out. This left one is not coming out. I used 3 different pry bars and a giant screw driver with no luck. I am just going to have to either take it to a shop or find someone to get it out for me.

Here is the correct set up for the job. The slide hammer and axle adapter are available in the loaner tool program. Usually one good whack will remove the axle.
