Default front diff cable

how do you replace the front diff shift cable? do you have to pull that axle assy down to be able to get to the clip that secures cable to the fork, or can i remove plastic cover that the cable goes through and be able to get to the clip that way? i have a new cable and want to replace it, this hole diff has been a real problem for me, but all it needs now is a new cable. thanks for any help., its a 96 balzer

The only thing you have to do is remove the three bolts that hold the cable housing to the passenger side axle tube. Pull the cable assembly back enough to stick small flat head screwdriver in there and wiggle the screwdriver around. That should be enough to disengage the clip. Then you just unscrew the nut from the where the cable enters that housing and it should come right out.
