My 01 may be different. It took a little while to get the bolts off because of the lack of room. But eventually you'll get it with an open end wrench. The plastic part comes off by pressing the clips together and pulling it off. I unplugged my Fuel Pump Relay and tried to start the truck to get all the fuel out of the lines, it worked better than I thought. But again, it may be different than my 01, just work at it slowly and you'll get the bolts off the fuel filter and the fuel filter bracket. Good Luck! Make sure you have a small bucket or something to catch the remaining fuel.

You must have some b-i-i-i-g wrenches. If it's been a long time since the filter was changed (if ever) a good soaking with penetrating oil may be needed prior to removal.

Line wrenches are your best friend when it comes to getting it off. Seen way to many of these stripped off.

X2 on this. If they are tight and if you round the nuts off you will have to resort to vice grips.

Space can be very tight. You may have to flip the line wrench over to where it will work. Since the nut on the filter is larger you can usually use a regular open end wrench in the filter. Just make sure it fits snugly on the hex end of the filter. It works best if you can position the 2 wrenches so you can squeese them together with one hand to loosen the nut. This can keep you from busting some knuckles.

Some have o-rings on the ends of the fuel lines. Don't loose them and if they are damaged get new ones that are designed for gasoline. Don't just stick any old o-ring on there.

Do not have your shop light anywhere near where fuel could spray, splash or drip on the bulb. This can cause the bulb to pop and the gas could be ignited by the hot bulb element. You could have a huge fire if enough gas was spilled.
