Fuel Injection Upgrade?
#11
thats about right. I wouldnt worry about it untill you have issues. Once that time comes, everything is plug n play with the new bracket. Hardest part is getting the manifold seated. I did one on a astro van.

1996 and newer 4.3L engines, (8th character of the VIN must be "W") use 6 injectors centrally located in the plenum. There is a nylon fuel line connected to each injector for each cylinder. At the end of each line there is a poppet valve with a nozzle that attaches to each intake port. Over time, the poppet nozzels get restricted or leak fuel, or both. The assembly looks like this:

The new design eliminates the poppet valves and relocates the injectors to the intake ports. Fuel mileage and performance are both improved slightly with the upgrade. If the 8th character of the VIN is "X", the engine already has the upgraded injector assembly. The new design looks like this:

The assembly is available at most auto parts stores, as well as Amazon, Ebay and other online sources, usually for under $200. The Delphi part # is FJ10565 and comes with the necessary bracket. An upper intake gasket set is also necessary to complete the job. With a little practice, the job can be done in under 2 hours using common hand tools. No reprogramming of the PCM is necessary, plug & play.

Captain, I have a 1995 Blazer and I figure my terrible performance and the sucky running is due to the injection. tell me, can I get the upgraded spider for my year? My truck has a 'W' in the 8th position also. The funny thing about this truck is that it is a 1995 model yet has the OBDII plug under the dash rather than the OBDI as specs call for and NO mechanic or parts person I talk to believes til they see it. They always assume I'm an idiot and know nothing about anything. Not a mechanic but have kept everything running for me and other family for 20+ years.
Your truck is a CPI injected truck, which uses a different fuel injection setup than the 96+ trucks.
Yours is like this

Early 95 had CMFI with OBDI engine controls. Mid 95 had CMFI with OBD1.5 engine controls. Not fully OBDII compliant, but it did give DTC's starting with "P". The PCM used a different protocol and requires unique software in the scan tool to retrieve DTC's, (not all scan tools will communicate with it). There are a few, (very few) late 95's that had CSFI and were fully OBDII compliant. All of this confusion is one of the reasons that Oldsmobile did not produce the Bravada in 1995.
