fuel leak
The leak is probably from the vent valve (part of emissions system). It's common for the vacuum hose to become detached when removing the tank. It's also possible to break the plastic tube the hose attaches to. If the leak is coming from the front it is either that or a rust hole. Also, be advised, the fuel lines run along the top of the frame and don't get the gunk washed off over the years and eventually rust out. If the leak happens only when the ignition is on, you have a hole in your fuel line. My "96 developed a leak aft of the fuel filter after service. I bypassed the rusted line with high pressure rubber line from Car Quest.

agreed, the vent valve at the front, mine was leaking. needed a new gas tank since the plastic ones are made in a way where you cannot replace the valve ( atleast i couldn't figure out how ) if its a metal tank it should just unscrew
