Fuel line fittings--use old ones?

Still waiting for fuel sending unit from previous posts but I remembered I have a question regarding the existing fuel flex fittings.
Do the metal "clips" that attach to the new unit ends usually come off with the old unit? (I remember changing the fuel filter and the metal clip stayed on the old filter and I had to remove it). One fitting broke with the plastic pump nipple still i/s the flex line and the other is on the old fuel pump "nipple." Or is that something someone should try to buy new and put on the new unit?
Tks. (again)
