FUEL PUMP 96 BLAZER
HI ALL:
I'M THE NEW GUY HERE AND NEED SOME HELP..............I HAVE A 96 S-10 BLAZER 4.3, IT WON'T START UNLESS I SPRAY SOME STARTING FLUID DOWN IT'S THROAT. IT WILL START AND STAY RUNNING. DOES THIS INDICATE THE FUEL PUMP IS OK?? WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE?? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

Wow seems like there are more and more of these post. Odd there was a member who just posted doing this to get their truck started (same year even too) and it would stay running after wards. Wonder if its the same truck.
BTW please dont use all caps, makes it look like you are YELLING and no one wants to respond to someone who is YELLING.
Check the Fuel Pressure w/ proper tool
Do a leak down test with Fuel Pressure tool
look for any fuel leaks within the fuel line
Make sure you have a good fuel filter
and if its still doing it after all that then check your FPR (fuel pressure regulator)

It takes more fuel pressure to start the truck then it does to keep it running. yours should drop about 10psi. Check your fuel pressure. It could be a partially plugged fuel fitler, or your fuel pump.

Hi all again...first, sorry about using all caps!! Second, I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator this morning, still won't start without some go-go juice in it's mouth!! I'm going to check the pressure tomorrow, don't have a gauge here. Anyone kow what pressure I should be reading? Also, on the bottom of the FPR there is a nipple for a tube it looks like but there was no tube on it and by the way it looks there hasn't been one either, is this correct??
thanks

Yes there is a provision for a tube, but since the regulator sits in the intake manifold, it does not need a vacuum line connected to it. And I believe the pressure should be 55-60 psi, closer to 60 is prefered.
Welcome to the forum.
I had pretty much had the same porblem as you. I ended up replacing my fuel pump and that took care of problem. Here is the link to my thread, I did a short writeup in the end.

I was having the same problems but mine would stay running and on the highway it would completely shut off and coast then come back on. Just last week it was cutting in and out for a while on my trip back home and when I pulled over for gas, after filling up it wouldnt start. So I had it towed to a shop and it was the fuel pump that was bad.
