My compressor doesnt kick on when ac is turned on. I have been reading other threads about the ac and I have come to an end. I can jump the low side cycling switch and the compressor kicks on, but no cold air. I had read about air being in the lines causing it not to blow cold so I bled off some and still not getting cold inside the car. What is the next step from there, because if its not getting cold the low side switch would cause that would it. Do I need to replace the cycling switch or is there something that should be done? Well, this topic has been discussed in numerous threads, but here ya go...

You are low on refridgerant. You have a leak. It may be a very slow leak in which case, a recharge kit from your favorite autoparts store and a few extra cans of refridgerant should fill it back up to the proper pressure and cool properly. If it is a larger leak, then an at home recharge won't last long. If that is the case, you'll need to get it fixed if you require the A/C.

 

The level of freon is fine that is why i said that i had bled some off to see if any air was in there. All is good and i have no leaks that is why i asked what would my next step be. thanks for trying.

 

I would take it to a reputable A/C technician. It sounds like you have a restriction in the lines... I am not A/C technician but I have watched a couple of episodes of Two Guys Garage when they were working on A/C and there are a couple parts that fit inside the lines, I can't think of them right now but this would be a time for you to let someone skilled in A/C to tell you what is wrong....it could be something as simple as a pressure sensor not letting current flow. Or it could be more complicated....

Well, how did you check the level of the refridgerant? If you didn't do it with a gauge, you didn't check the level properly. Inorder to do any check of the level of the refridgerant, the compressor must be engaged and the engine running.

 

I had my gauges on and jumped the switch to engage the compressor like all the other threads had said to do. Thats why in my original post I said that I had read all the other threads on ac problems and am now at a point of needing help.

 

Well, no where in your posts in this thread did you state that. I would agree with Mark's statement, you mostlikely have a restriction in the orific tube. You will need to recover the refridgerant in the system before opening it up. I would also agree with Mark in stating that you should take this to someone specializing in A/C repair.

If the pressures (high and low side) were good, then why did you relieve some of it...? Air in the lines cannot be bled out if it were present.

 

In one of the threads that I was reading it had said something about air being in the lines and having to be let out. But after releasing some I saw no reason to bleed since I wouldnt know where the air pocket is.
