Fuel pump install gone bad
New first time poster here….Installed new Carter fuel pump on 1996 S10 blazer. When I fueled up it leaked around the O ring in a big way. Anybody rolled, pinched or damaged the O ring on an install? The direction called for lubing the O ring, I used spray silicon the first try then used axel grease the second time and thought I was home free. I was wrong. It seemed simple enough at the time and how would you test the seal before you reinstall the tank? Getting the old fuel pump out I snapped the line off the old fuel pump because I could not work the tool in to release the lines. I am a little concerned when I redo this I will damage the new fuel pump. Maybe it is easier to get the fuel lines off the frame side? Any thoughts?

I always wipe a thin coat of silicone grease on the o-ring and have never had a leak. I put the o-ring in the tank and not on the pump. It can be a little hard to push the pump down and sometimes I need a helper.
I only take the lines off the pump as they have to come off anyway. If you take them off at the frame you still have to do them at the pump. If something goes wrong at the frame end you may wish you had left it alone.
Be sure you inspect the electrical connector carefully for corrosion and use a dab of dielectric grease on the terminals. They sell new connectors if needed and some pumps come with replacement connectors.

I have yet to drop the tank to redo the fuel pump, Since it is running I am running the gas out compared to pumping it out. The thought has came to me that if the O ring was not making the seal then it Should throw a SES light the same as if the gas cap was loose? Any thoughts? I tested this theory by loosing the gas cap and sure enough, SES light came on. tighten the cap and in a couple of miles the light with out.
Thanks
