The fuel pump ground goes through a splice pack behind the bumper, and the ground is on the top of the extreme left rear corner of the frame.

Fuel level sender grounds in the same place. Open circuit will peg the needle past full. Lotta problems with the module connector too. Gets hot, melts, and loses connection.

If the needle stays on empty, there is a short to ground in the level sender circuit. The wires are right next to each other for the level sender and the pump. If the harness gets pinched, it can short out and cause both issues that you're having.

Ok Boy's Not for nothing, but you can splice in a variable rheostat from radio shack to the black ground wire from your fuel pump to the ground. Fill up the tank and("tune it in!!!). The variable resistor on your fuel gage works on ohm's resistance back from the chassis to the gage. You can back-space this with a tunable backspace resister to the ground. If ya need help with this PM me or Cpt. with this. Chuck would be better but I am more then willing to help, Jeff.

well I found my problem wires in the wire harness are smaller than the wires for the new fuel pump whoever did the work on this before I bought it used crush butt connectors the smaller diameter wire was moving inside the crush I cut them out and soldered the wires together now the fuel pump is fine thanks for the help guys

Nice job! Solder is the ONLY way to go! Beats me why the pump manufacturers supply crimp connectors with new pumps. Stupidest thing in the world. Do they think water won't get to the connectors? There is no place on a vehicle that a crimp connector should be used. Glad you found it, thanks for posting back.
