Question Fuel pump need help

i have a 98 blazer and i think that my fuel pump is going out.

1. i can hear the fuel pump running when i'm driving.

2. trun the truck on and walk back about 15-18 feet and can still hear the fuel pupm running

3.driving down the street RPM at 1400 gave it some more gas RPM droped down to 1000-900 RMP.

4. the fuel pump nose comes and go ????

What could be causing the pump to act like this?? fuel filter, relays or just the pump???

If anyone can please help before i got out and buy a new feul pump$(309.00) at autozone

i will replace my fuel filter tomrrow and if if this helps

thanks in advance

Dont know exactly what your problem may be but if you do need to buy the fuel pump ,buy ac delco and put a new filter at the same time. That autozone crap is bound to give you problems .The original is not that much more and you wont need to replace it soon .Check your fuel pulsator while in the tank
Good Luck

you don't mention the mileage on the truck, or, if the pump has been changed before. if it's an origional pump, and high mileage, then i'd put money on the pick-up sock being the problem (probably the fuel filter too like you said).
what brand of fuel do you run? i ask 'cause i'm not sure if anyone down there (in the US) has ever had this problem, but for awhile, anyone who was using Petro Canada fuel in their GM vehicle, was having severe problems with the fuel eating away @ the sock in the tank, and clogging/eating the pump up (it kinda sucks royally now that Sunoco owns Petro Canada, and is looking at getting rid of the Sunoco brand name in Canada now).

i have 201463 miles,i did change out the fuel filter the next day and was shock to see black STUFF coming out of the back of filter. after chaning the filter ever thing went back to normol. ...

We change the fuel pump about 2yr's ago and it came from auto zone. And the fuel pump gasket, we have a hard time trying to put on the gasket 1st warning sign. Put it back togetther went to go fill the tank, went inside to get a water came back outside and gas was leaking from the top of the gas tanks. because they gave usa bigger gasket.

But today on the highway my truck strated to have missfire's ... it funny i guess i have to change out the distributor cap every 24-25 weeks and i dont know why.

Could it be that O'Reilly's just suck??? today i went to NAPA for my distributor cap.

thanks for the help guys

i'm not sure what O'Reilly uses for the contact material in their caps, but i always buy the brass ones, 'cause the aluminum ones seem to wear out faster.
i've always used the best tune-up parts available. it may cost a bit more, but at least i can rest easy knowing that they're gonna last the full year without any problems (usually).
