Default Fuel smell after replacing pump

I replaced the fuel pump omy 95 blazer and have started to notice a fuel smell when starting and when stoped at stop signs...the lines should be fine and the two vacuum lines are hooked up...When I took the old pump off I noticed that it was covered with some sort of sealant like the entire top of the tank was sprayed with almost a tar ....im guessing it was done at the factory and am wondering if I should spay some under coat or something on top of the tank to try and reseal it again??????

Did you make sure to put the new rubber seal in with the pump? Sometimes it's the simple things that get overlooked

Did you connect the rubber hose to the vent located in the front of the tank?
