Guys, I dont think anything is wrong with your gauge. In the 1997 Tahoes they installed a smart gas gauge, supposed to match your gas left in the tank with your average speed. It fluctuates all the time...I wouldnt worry, some of the Blazers have this installed too. If it gets on your nerves and the car is under warranty. Take it back and ask the dealer to put a new one in, its really not the gauge, just the sensor. Let me know if I am wrong.

It still has me worried a bit, whenever I'm low on gas, and it's not quite payday and I'm trying to stretch it out, yeah, the nerves start to kick in. But I had like 1/4 tank left, the overhead console said 347 miles left, and the gauge bounced up and down like three times. This is while I was sitting in my blazer at work for lunch (the blazer had been sitting there for at least 3 1/2 hours.) No warranty though It doesn't do it all the time though. My blazer has an attitude problem.

Yeah, if your Xtreme has an overhead console, im willing to bet that it has this "smart" gauge. At any rate, the reason it bounces so much is that it is measured by a float, when the gas has sloshed around some times, it likes to dance, and put on a show. I would call the dealer just ask them to look up your VIN number and they will tell you what options were put on your car....
