Despise, no, i am a realist.

All brands have their pros and cons.

OLD Chevys have my vote, NOT, computer controlled junk like 2nd gen Blazers.

When/if it works correctly, it is just barely passable to be used as a daily driver.

My 2005 Jeep GC 5.7 Hemi is a MUCH better vehicle.

Most of us like and enjoy our blazers and our swartlkk. Your blazer may have been worked on by a terrible mechanic. Glad you're happy with the heep.

[QUOTE=Rusty Nuts;686591]Most of us like and enjoy having to replace the brake calipers on our blazers when changing the pads, because the GM designed brake system is so poor.

Really?

I didn't, but i had to do, because the damn pistons would not push back into the bores.

No such problem on my Jeep.

Not here to knock Blazers in general, but you must admit, they are on the whole a poorly designed vehicle.

Having gotten to know my Blazer for many years now, my thoughts are that for doing maintenance, it was not designed very well. I feel like I'm spending over half my time getting other stuff out of the way to get at the thing that needs to be replaced.

However, when I compare our little Blazers to the smallest body-on-frame SUVs you can get now that are much larger, I realize that it would have been pretty hard to cram as much as they did into our trucks without burying half of the key parts behind other parts.

However, I do have very little sympathy for the engineers who came up with the lousy LIM gasket design and the leaky oil cooler lines. Whoever was responsible should have been made to penance by replacing 100 of each for no pay. LOL

My old '94 Blazer had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Drive, and Overdrive gear options.

My current '98 does not have overdrive.

Thanks for all the info...I had been wondering about this since I purchased it 4 years ago.

By the way, my gas mileage is probably about the same, 15-16 mpg average.

18-20 on the highway...with the wind....going downhill.

So your 94 had an automatic with FIVE gears?? I very much doubt it. My old '92 had 4 forward gears with the top gear labeled "OD", circle around a D, for overdrive.

The manual transmissions had 5 gears with the top gear considered over-drive.

Edit: Traditionally in automatics with 3 forward gears, "3" was labeled "D" for drive. Could you be thinking your '94 had "1", "2", "D", and "O/D"?

With my memory, my wife would say it is possible.

I sold the 94 in 2005, bought a Monte Carlo. So it's been a minute. It had the digital dash, and on the fly 4x4 ... Much nicer than my sister's '86 2.8 L.
I remember driving it in D around town, and switching to OD for highways.
Very possible it was 1, 2, D, and OD. 😎

First of all, let's try and keep things civil here. Vetteandblazerman I am sure people on the Jeep forums would love to hear how horrible you think blazers are. I do have to agree though, the blazer is decent but the electronics are horrible. As far as the topic at hand, I tend to agree with Swartlkk. It sounds like you either don't have a working 4th gear, or you converter isn't going into lock up. This would explain your poor gas mileage. If you replace the transmission, replace the converter as well.

Since when was speaking the truth regarded as being uncivil?

As i pointed out in a previous post, ALL brands have their pros and cons.

Anyone that has owned a 2nd gen for a while, i have had mine for about 10 years, will know the strengths and weaknesses of these vehicles.

Some people just don't like the truth.
