Default Good morning. Issues with drawing volts and killing my 2nd battery.

I'm having issues finding out why my blazer is drawing 10 volts from a battery and draining it I just recently bought my second battery and replaced a lot of parts alternator starter fuel pump relay fuel filter fuel pump today is the day that I was getting ready to replace all the gaskets as well I also have an interlock device in my truck that I don't know yet if that's the one drawing the issue or a Cabeza non-existent OnStar that I have in my truck that does not work please help I cannot afford much more as I am going through ****show thanks in advance

Does it draw the battery down while it's sitting, or while you're driving? If it happens over the course of days while you aren't using it, the first thing I would check is all the lights that you might not see, like the vanity mirrors or glovebox light. Make sure they aren't staying on when the vehicle is turned off. If it happens while you're driving, check the alternator output voltage.

Do you mean 10 amps current draw or the battery is drawn down to 10V?

What is the system voltage when the truck is running?

I believe from my mechanic its drawing 10 volts maybe he said amps... either way when truck is running its fine. It's when I turn it off. It kills my battery. I do not have anything on. I've turned everything off especially my hood light. I have interlock in my truck. Could that be the issue??

If you want to start diagnosing and fixing your truck, that's great and we are here to help. That said, you will need more knowledge and a few tools. You can start by reading my 12V primer in my signature and then if your head has not exploded, my article on wiring faults. Then you will need a decent meter, a decent DVM at least but the addition of a clamp meter is even better. There are many budget meters that can do the job and we can help with that. Without some knowledge and basic tools everyone is guessing and that can get expensive.

What do you mean by interlock?

Interlock is a camera and breathalyzer equipment...due to d.u.i. from 7 yrs ago.... finally get back on my feet 1 yrs ago and now this.... where do I look at your "signature "? I really really need a answer...my job and life is down to the nitty griddy right now....I literally was driving a couple wks ago and bammm died on me....I replaced,..... starter, alt, dis cap wires and plugs. Also. Fuel filter fuel pump relay. And fuel pump. Removed a car audio system. My mechanic has looked over everything. As we speak I'm getting my interlock removed to see if that helps...if not. I could really use help. Also this weekend replacing all gaskets due to a serious leak. I love this truck!. Reminds me of the 2000 Jimmy my mother had. I'm just a lost for thought and words right now.

OK now I understand, I'll do my best to help.

Look below in any of my posts and click the article links shown in red.

Can you get access to a digital meter? We need to find out two things: what the charging voltage is when your truck is running and what the current/amperage draw is when the truck is a rest. Then if your truck is draining the battery even at rest then we have to find out which circuit it is.

Follow up on what Tom said and make sure that your visor lights are not on with the visors up. They break and then the light does not turn off. I took the bulbs out of mine. While your working on this you can disconnect one of the battery cables at night.
