greasing zerk fittings?
I do them at every oil change.
The official service manual has diagrams of their location. I would guess a Haynes manual would also have that info.
Info about when to grease them is likely in the owners manual. Pdfs of these can often be downloaded.
As for where they are, on my 99 4dr, 4wd Blazer, these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head:
I also installed an upgraded idler arm system and for it, the idler arm pivot also gets greased.

- upper and lower ball joints
- Inner and outer tie-rod ends
- Pittman and Idler arm attachments to center-link.

Wow, every oil change?? I haven't ever done them unless some of the dealer servicing did it without my knowledge. I guess I need to find an oil change place that does this? What happens if they don't get greased?
Yes, every oil change. At one time it was better known as an "oil change and grease job".
I would guess that most people never grease the fittings. If the components don't get greased, they will fail prematurely.

Have you found a copy of your Owners Manual? It will tell you what you need to do.
As for why do do it? As mentioned above, topping off the grease greatly extends the life of your components.
FYI many modern cars have greaseless ball joints. This might be why you haven't heard of doing this.
I usually go with a cheap mini grease gun with cartridge, and get it to work once, then cant get it to reload, so next time i have to buy another one. However, I've a full sized one too, for going around corners, and can't figure that one out either.
