No you should not be able to move the transmission by hand. Should not be able to move either motor, or trans. by hand. Sounds like new mounts all the way around. You really got to work at breaking motor mounts. Makes me wonder what the original owner/owners did with it. Neutral drops are good for that.

 

Replaced mounts and problem fixed..it was due to them anyway truck has 220.000 miles....

 

OP, about how long did it take you to replace the mounts?
What's involved in that?

 

Ok false alarm the noise is still there... it sounds like it's coming from on top the transmission??? I can't feel of like a loose heat shield I have no clue I'm at a tottal lose

 

Took about a hour 30 mins just Jack up the engine and there's 3 bolts

 

Been messing with it all day trying to figure out noise.... All fluids are full put new motor mounts in still needs a trans mount tho....I don't think it's coming from in the engine bay and if it is I have no clue what it could be seeing how it has a newer tensioner pulley and has a new idler pulley and I checked the others...it does not do it in park or neutral only in gear noise starts at about 1500-1600 rpms then stops at about 2200 rpms sounds like a grinding noise kinda like a bad bearing ?????

 

Just wondering if you ever solved this issue, probably a long shot since it is now 2022. I am having thebsame problem it seems. After changing both wheel bearing hubs, I thought I fixed the issue but I went to drive and before making it 10ft it started grinding

 

This thread is pretty ancient, so it might be better to start a new one, but is yours a 4WD? If so, have you checked the CV joint on the front driveshaft where it connects to the transfer case? That's a pretty common failure point. That really wouldn't make noise in 2WD, though. Only in 4WD or Auto 4WD.
