harmonic balancer unstall

Default harmonic balancer unstall

got a 96 blazer but cant seem to get the harmonic balancer to come off i got big bolt out should the other 3 bolts come out as well?

Yes, those 3 bolts hold the pulley on. Remove the three bolts and then get a suitable harmonic balance puller and remove the balancer.

DO NOT USE A REGULAR PULLER!!!! If you grab the outside of the balance and pull on it you could/will separate the two pieces of the balancer and tear the rubber (dampener) of the balancer and render it useless!!!

You can rent the appropriate puller from your local O'Reilly, Autozone etc....

No problem.

See the thing is, that the puller uses the three holes that hold the pulley on. You thread 3 bolts into the holes and then the puller has a long threaded bolt that pushes against the crankshaft snout...and it pulls the balancer off with out any damage.

Might I ask why you are pulling it off?

Well i was on my way to put a new cam and lifters in, but desided befor i went in to it too far id check for piston slap and front piston on drivers side i could push down half inch so other than paying 1000+ on rebuild im just going to buy a motor that i found with 91k on it for 600 and stick in it.. hope it works out like that
