Default Heat Issues

I have a 98 Blazer which all of a sudden ran out of heat and started to push cold air while riding on the highway this winter. The heat came back on but did not stay to long before pushing cold air once again. I brought it to my mechanic and he said it sounded like a plugged heater core so he flushed it abd put a cleaner in there. That was about a week ago and he has not re flushed it yet. I was waiting in a drive through at a restaurant about 3 days ago and was starting to run our of heat again while just waiting. I was also watching my temp gage go from just below half way to almost 3/4 !! I finally got my super and left while carefully watching my gage and still getting hit with cold air but about 5 minutes later the heat came back on and my gage went right back to below half way ? Since then my heat has sometimes gone from good to cold. One more note... My engine has had a little prestone leak which you can visually view towards the top of my engine but has not been leaking bad enough for me to get it fixed yet. Its getting worse now a little but is this from the famous intake? I'm told locally here the bill to fix this runs about $600. I just get my prestone topped up when getting my oil changed and usually i'm good to go for a while. Its starting to smell like prestone from the outside now though...

Yeah to me sounds like a heatercore. And the leak is probably due to the intake manifold gasket leaking.

I used the felpro when I did mine when I owned a 98. Drove it another 10 or 20K on those gaskets and never had issues.
