Default Heater stuck on!

Hey, everyone. My wife recently purchased a 1996 Blazer 4.3 as a backup vehicle. Its is very good mechanical condition. The only real issue is the heater control dial. Even if its on the cold air setting, the air coming out of the vents is still hot. The fan control switch works fine.

It's ok for now, since it's still rather cold here in Salem. But once summer comes along this will be an issue.

I have researched briefly online and I found that the tempurature control is via electric motor. And the dash must be removed in order to replace it. Is this the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a Blazer noob.

Thanks!

I was helping a buddy with an explorer with kind of the same problem last year. It could be the switch is bad and not sending a signal, the electric motor that switches the doors in the HVAC system is bad or, what was wrong with his, the door inside the HVAC was broken where the motor hit it. We were able to manually move the door to heat with a screw driver and his wife was able to survive the winter.

Never done it on a Chevy, but the principles should be the same.

Thanks for your response. I found this while searching the web for information.

Blend Door (with pictures and the common problem) - Automotive Forums .com Car Chat

Seems to be a common issue with these trucks. I will be looking at this first.

Thanks, again.
