Default Help with Key problem.

I bought a 2001 blazer today an i love it. It drove fine allday. when I got home this evening I went to turn it off an the key would not go back far enough to take it out. it took several tries an finally it came out. this has happened several times tonight. My question is the dealer had repoed this blazer so it only has 2 keys no remotes. they are not chiped an i was wondering if they should be. could this cause it not to act right. also a security light stays on when i get out. I also had the check engine soon light tht came on also. I hope its not a lemon because I realy like it. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

No chip on the key for an '01.On the steering wheel housing bottom cover, directly under the key tumbler, there's a hole, about 1/4-3/8" dia. If you stick a thin screw driver stem up there, you should be able to turn the key back. If this solves the problem, you have a bad solenoid on the key tumbler. You have to take the steering wheel shroud off to get at the solenoid.
Security light should flash when key is removed and door is open. Should go out when door is closed.
Plenty of minor things can cause the SES light. Go to a parts store and get the codes read for free. List the codes here. Someone will help.
Autozone & Advanced auto offer the free code readings.

like Mike sais most likely the solenoid. Same thing happened to mine about a week after i bought it. Solenoids are known to go bad in these (or so ive been told) and they are simple little things to replace. Just pop off the bottom cover of the Wheel housing and it will be right there connected to the ignition. If the ignition is on the wheel like mine, if its on the dash like my wifes kia, then i have no clue.

Also, did you make sure it was fully in park? I know if these trucks aren't in park you aint getting the key to turn off completely at all no matter what. I ask that because I did that before as well.....

Thanks for the helpthe key will come out if i push it in toward the dash after i put it in park. but now i have a bigger problem i took it to have oil changed an have the engine light code looked out well it was a vaccume hose off. but when they drove it they told me i have a differensial problem to take it to a trasnsmission place an have it looked at. so i did an he is telling me it could cost 600.00 or 1500 depending on what he finds when he gets into it . so i'm going to the dealer tat sold it to me to see what they will do. it having alot of little quirks an i like the truck i just want it to not be a lemon i will let you know what happens.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but on the same lines. My remote batteries are dieing. (2000 Blazer, LT 4x4 4.3) there doesn't appear to be a screw or way to the open it to replace the battery. Am I going to have to go to the dealer and get charge 100 bucks to either replace the battery or purchase a new one?

To the OP,
What were the code(s) that came up when you had the PCM scanned? Please list them.

What was the truck doing that your 'mechanic' stated was a diff problem?

To the blatant hijack,

What part of this thread has anything to do with the key fob other than the OP doesn't have any...? Same lines...?? Not in the slightest bit... But seeing as the question is simple enough, just pry the fob apart. It snaps together. Now please create a new thread for your next problem unless you find another one that actually IS related by using the search feature.

well the codes he said was somthing with the fuel system. when he found it it was a vaccume line that was off. but the diff problem was when you backed up or took off when you cut the front wheels it had a bad vibration until it got up to 15 -20 mph. any way i took it back to the dealer he wouldn,t fix it but he let me out of the deal minus the 125.00 he paid to have my trade in detailed which i thought was real fair. so guys i'm looking for another blazer going to look at one today wish me luck an thanks for all the responses. I'll let you know what I get Thanks again
