How do I remove the instrument cluster in my 1997 S10 Blazer?

I have tried a couple of times, to remove the instrument cluster in my Blazer, to replace a burnt-out light. I can't seem to get it out. The steering column is in the way on the bottom (with or without the plastic shroud), and there are two channels, or dips hanging down from the top of the dash on the top, which don't allow the cluster to pass through. I can't find anything out there, so I thought I'd ask. How the heck do I get it out?
Thanks in advance.

You have to drop the steering column...

While I'm in there, I want to replace all the lights with LED's. I was trying to pull it so I can figure out exactly which bulbs are in there (The bulb guides list several possibilities.) If it's that much work to get it out, I'd really rather not do it twice. Does anyone know what bulbs are back there and how many of each?
Thanks!
Thanks!
