Default How smartrack awd works

I was wondering how the smartrack awd system actually works. From what I can find I think its is more like 2wd except when slipping is detected, but in reality it seems like its all time 4wd since when in park you cant spin the front wheel.

Default RE: How smartrack awd works

The older systems were something like a 30/70 split front rear all the time. Not really an all time 4wd, but all wheel drive. There is allowable slip between the front and rear due to the torque bias which was driven by a viscous clutch.

The newer systems used from '98 up could go from 2wd (100% rear) up to 70% front (30% rear), if I remember correctly. I posted this awhile ago, but can't seem to find the thread so I'm just quoting from memory.
