Default How to wire an electric fuel pump

I am about fed up with my mech fuel pump, thinking to go all-electric. I have one in there now, to prime the carburetor, which can take more than 20 seconds... where does the gas go?. Supposedly it would be more reliable if I moved it back near the gas tank. If so, I'm wondering how I should route the hose, should I raise it up as it nears the carburetor or keep it low?
Also, for the unused fuel pump, should I leave the in/out nipples open to the air?

DONT do what I did on the Blazer, I put an electrical fuel pump in the engine compartment and it VAPOR LOCKED in CO at altitude, drove me CRAZY trying to figure it out until I saw bubbles in the fuel filter.
Give the hose some "up" so any bubbles will float up and be released by the carb float.

And repair whatevers wrong with the carb thats taking 20 seconds to fill. Depending on the type of carb (Chryslers wer ebad for this, the Aluminum F___ Blob that torched the big blocks) the top gasket between the bowl cover and bowl can leak and Ive actually shut a hot engine off and watched fuel pour into the intake manifold.

A toggle switch on the dash, powering the electric pump from the ignition power is trick, and if the switch is hidden, makes the vehicle more difficult to steal.
