Ok, so I decided to get another motor for the 2000 blazer. What should I check on this new motor before i put it in the car. Is there anything I can check while its still out of the car before I know its good or not? I haven't listened to it yet, just dont wanna pay the mechanic to put it in when i can surely tell its a bad engine. Thanks guys.

 

well i suppose you could turn it over by hand to check if its ceased. did you get a long block or short block? if you got a long block then there's a lot to check (mainly seals, lifters, ect...) but if its a short block check the conditions of the pistons and you probably want to look at the main bearings to see if one spun.

Im sure there is other things to check but more people will chime in here

 

I'd start out by replacing the intake manifold gasket, valve cover gaskets and check the rear seals for wear/leaking. Also check the distributor for slop, replace all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Install the motor then stand in front of the car and rotate counter clockwise 3 times while saying "Please be good". In the olden days I'd bench test the engine and do a compression test but it's hard to do with all the computer controls and the fuel pump in the tank. I'm not even sure if you can still jump the starter on these things.

 

Yep,mostly pop the oil pan off,check the bearings.replace intake gasket,they suck.

anything else can be fixed in car. It would SUCK to run it not knowing a bearing is kicking dirt.

 

Yea, I got a new Rear main seal, new rod connector bearings, a high volume oil pump and strainer, with the new intake and valve cover gaskets. It looks alright. Now lets hope when we put it in the truck it actually sounds like a decent champ. The junkyard was even nice enough to throw in the flowmaster that came off the previous blazer

 

Ha cool. Let us know how it runs. Im cheap...and i go after those 150.00 pick it yourself engines....but man does it ever get old to sit there when you turn the key "is this baby gonna run?"

 

I know the feeling man! Im all ansy and dont know what to do to make time go faster. Ima service writer here at the shop and im just watching the progress. Rod Connector bearings wont be in til prob 11 a.m. my time, so yea Probably gonna go do some busy work or chill on the forums haha.
