I wish you luck. That's a lot of work but replacing the harness with quality used is what I'd do (or splice/repair). I realize you farmers are a hardy breed but I'd have that thing in a garage to do this. Even an unheated one with a kerosene torpedo.

Default emissions

The only emissions we have are the ones coming from the horse drawn carriages. These mountains are the land that time forgot. Maybe when they learn to spell it the Gov't may implement it. I'll be long since dead....lol

RonJon, I am not a farmer but a retired Senior Facilities/ Tooling/ Kaizan Engineer for Toyota. Being an ex Navy Seal/ Biker taught me to endure this weather...I have no problem with the cold for a few hours but this harness I believe will take longer than that and it's 17 here now (you can't wear gloves to do a harness). Yeah I sure do miss my 30' X 40' Shop though...I have the steel ready to build another though.

Default wiring harness

RonJon...have you replaced an engine wiring harness? If so, how hard is it to route the transmission wires across the rear of the engine and also do you need to remove the altenator to reach the crank sensor plug? Thanks for any advise.

No, never tried replacing one. I was just thinking that harness would have all the flexibility of steel cable at those temperatures. The crank sensor plug is easy to get at with the splash pan off.

Default wiring replacement

RonJon, Thanks for the splash pan removal tip...makes sense. The wiring is not really that hard to twist into place at 15 degrees...it's those darned plastic clips and connectors that don't want to cooperate....wascally wabbits!!!!

Default wiring harness install

Talked to a Chevy Mechanic about wiring harness replacement and he said he just did one. Seems to be a common problem. Took him and helper 8 hours at dealership. Said to mark and remove distributor, Then undo front body mounts and lift body up to gain access across trans. May have to remove upper fan shroud but only have to lift front of body about 1 1/2" to 2". Well the snow has melted to 3" almost ready to reveal cold mud so here goes nothing. Followup after the install noting install tips I find. Thanks for the help guys...later
