I twist then pull wire boots of the plugs. If they get stubborn then I use spark plug wire puller. They pretty much look like a pair of pliers with rubber coating on the jaw side. I think I paid about $6 at the local auto parts house.

I agree in a roundabout way....I don't wish I was skinny but sometimes I wish I had lil Asian hands instead of sausage fingers and to be a contortionist to get in and around the engine bay. hehehe

 

I finally got that puppy changed. I pulled the valve covers while tearing the engine down and I was able to come down from above and get a good hold on it. I still need to get #3 plug out but it was getting late and I was tired so it'll wait until tomorrow.

 

for the #3 plug i used a plug socket with a u-joint swivel and bound the u-joint so an extension would go on it at 90 degrees and just turned it like that little by little. However taking the steering shaft loose from the steering box might be easier because the clearance was still tight and if your socket or swivel is just 1mm bigger than mine it wont work.

 

I've been looking at that clamp bolt on the steering assembly. I'm pretty sure that the shaft will move out of the way when I pull that. I'm going to let it sit while I reassemble the rest of the engine. It seems to be going back together okay. I'm doing good to have an hour at a time to work on this puppy per day, if that.
