If I disable the immobilizer..?

If I disable the immobilizer..?
I drive a 1999 GMC Jimmy 4x4, and like many of you I've had some trouble with the Passlock anti theft device. The other day it left me trying to start it for an hour before I left it in a parking lot overnight-I was able to start it the following evening on the second try. Two days before that the same thing happened, yet the day in between it started about seven times with no problems. I began driving this car six months ago and did not have a problem starting it for two months straight, then it became the occasional incident with the "wait ten minutes" remedy. It has been not starting more and more frequently, and now what it has done to me this last week.
I would really like some opinions on why it is increasingly malfunctioning. I will attempt to do the "relearn" the next time it refuses to start.
But if I disable the Passlock, do I HAVE to install a remote starter, or can I just use the traditional key in the ignition? Will the car turn on without a remote starter if I disable it?
-Sincerely,
