Default Ignition cylinder issues

Earlier today I turned my blazer off and then tried to restart it and the starter made a electrical popping sound and next thing I know…I have no power nothing and the key won’t go all the way back to off. I disconnected the battery waited a few minutes.

After reconnecting the battery. I have a security and battery light blinking. Some weird sounds coming from behind the glove box and clicking noises from the fuse panel under the hood on the driver side inner fender.

I tore the under dash panels apart along with the column clam shells to find that when I push the tab at the bottom of the steering wheel theft deterrent lock (pic included) the key will rock back and be normal. After dinner with everything unhooked. I tried to reconnect the battery and the clicking noises returned along with the noises behind the glove box. I’m at a stopping point for the night because I can only find this part online.

Will this part cause everything to go completely haywire? I’m hoping it’s not a major issue

When all of this is happening, what is your battery voltage at the battery terminals and what is your ignition voltage at either the ICM or coil pink wire to battery post ground?

Good morning sir. I can’t tell you all that I don’t have a multimeter. Where is the ICM?

I applaud you wanting to learn about your truck and do your own repairs. In order to perform basic trouble shooting you are going to need a multimeter. There are many low cost decent options on Amazon.

Thank you for your help. I’ll see if I can find one locally. Amazon takes forever to get up here

Update…..turns out the positive battery cable was loose and full of corrosion and the starter was hung up. I did replace the ignition cylinder because it was wore out and the ignition relay in the fuse box under the hood. I also replaced the ICM for good measure. Put the old spare in the glove box
