Default Instrument Cluster

Hi Guys,

I have a 2005 Blazer and the gauges are all over the place.

The Speedometer reads 100 mph all the time and the oil pressure is off the dial.

Is this a chronic problem with these cars and what's the fix?

Thanks,
Peter

Sounds like a short in the harness leading to the cluster... Or perhaps just a had cluster. I know the 98~06 full size GM's had issues with the stepper motors that controls the needles in the clusters, but typically that just left a dead gauge that didn't read anything. I haven't heard of any issues with the S10/Blazer line up clusters though.

Could start trouble shooting by simply pulled the cluster out, maybe moving the harness around a bit will free up the shorted wire, that is assuming it's in that area in the dash. Could try a different cluster, but check and make sure that wherever you get it from (junk yard) will allow you to return it if it doesn't fix the issue.
