Key cylinder or Ignition switch?
I have an 01 LT Blazer 4X4 and my newest issue is starting problems. Doesn't happen all the time but when I try to start it, sometimes I have to keep turning the key over and over again. It's not acting like a passlock issue. The key doesn't give me problems turning, it's just the constant turning on and off of the ignition to get it to start. Before I make a purchase, I was wondering if yall thought it would be the cylinder or switch wiring?
Might be a problem with low fuel pressure. Cycling the ignition on and off before starting gives the fuel pump more time to build the necessary pressure to start the engine. Check fuel pressure and leakdown, (free) before throwing parts at it. Key on, engine off, fuel pump running, must be 60psi to 66psi and must remain above 55psi for at least 10 minutes after the pump shuts off.
AHHH ok, misunderstood. If the key physically turns to the start position, (lock cylinder not binding up) you'll need to check for battery voltage beginning at the ignition switch. Out of the ignition switch it's a yellow wire. Only has battery voltage in the start position. Changes to purple after the "crank" fuse to the park neutral switch. Changes to purple with a white trace from the park neutral switch back up to the starter relay in the fuse panel. Then changes back to purple from the relay down to the starter solenoid.
