Unhappy kicking back on starter and no start

I have a 97 Jimmy it has 174k miles on it. I got this jimmy from a friend who told me the starter was out he bought this truck new. I replaced the starter today and it will turn over but is kicking back really hard. This is the original motor. The only thing that has ever been done to it is that it has been tuned up. Seems like a timing issue to me but the distributor never been messed with so I dont see how it could just got itslelf out of time.

Inspect distributor bushing and gear. This will require distributor removal. Go to the BF homepage and google remove and replace distributor. Theres a ton of stuff on how to mark it properly so you don't screw it up.

Pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap and try cranking. If the engine cranks normal and doesn't "kick back", probably needs an AC Delco distributor cap & rotor.
