Everything I'd read said go for a drive afterward, and change the oil within 100 miles.

Here? or maybe go for a ride around town but to redline it?

I'm not busting on you or anything but did you really have to redline it?

I guess you live and learn like I said I toasted and engine and tranny but that was flooring it all the time...but that was 20 years ago...

Yes, some people said get on it hard, some people just said a drive, I only found one post (besides people here) that say don't run it like that, and if you do keep it under 1500 RPMs.

Wow...

you can try doing an oil change with cheap oil and filter, go for a ride, then drain it a couple of times see how it sounds but from what you've said there are metal shavings coming out, those shavings are cutting into the tolerences of the engine.

NO REDLINING.....EVER... NOT A GOOD THING NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS...

I'll keep that in mind for the Jimmy assuming it's cost effective to fix it.

Another question, assuming it is a rod and the rest of my engine is good so I just need a short block, what years can I take from? I know there were different injection systems used throughout the years but were the bottom ends interchangeable?

Well I'm now page 6 now so I figured I'd bring myself back to the top and note I started the truck a few days ago and the knocking sound was gone at idle, and only noticeable above 2000 RPMs. I didn't go for a drive, just let it warm up in place. Hopefully some trained ears will chime in.

I'm not trying to be contrary here, but Seafoam is made of petroleum, and when used properly shouldn't harm anything. The directions simply say to add an ounce and a half per quart of oil and change when dirty. It may or may not have anything to do with your knock.

I had an old car that I used to put Lucas oil stabilizer in. One oil change I didn't put it in, and about a month later the engine went boom. Upon inspection I found that it had spun a cam bearing, and it had been working at it for a while. It just so happened that It let go after I didn't use Lucas. Later I found out that 6 years before all of that happened the engine had been run nearly out of oil. Unless you buy a car new and never always drive it yourself you never know what could have happened under that hood.

I'd really like some more input on this, again the knock is completely silent until 2000 RPMs now. Oil pressure is perfect.
