lateral play on rear wheel
Hi all,
Did a rear brake job on my wife's 2003 4x4 blazer. One of the sliders was really stuck inside the caliper bracket. and sheared off. After much swearing I drilled all the way through the slider pin with 1/4" drill bit. pumped some grease in, then whacked a 1/4" punch down inside. The grease hydraulically pushed it up and out. After re-assembly I decided to grab the wheel and check the bearings. When I try to wobble the wheel it does not seem to have any play. But pulling and pushing toward the diff there is definitely some movement? What do you guys think is worn? The play seems to be at the wheel end rather than the diff.
Thanks guys.

The axles are splined for about 4" and they slide into the differential. There is a groove at the end of the shaft where a "C" shaped retainer keeps the axle from coming out. The end play that you feel is the axle sliding in and out bumping on the retainer... perfectly normal.
1/8 inch prolly gave the caliper slider pins a real workout. That would drag the pads and do bad things to gas milage. Seems like I remember shim clips to tighten that up. Been a long time since I've had a Chevy rear apart.
