Default Leaking gear oil

So I have a 2000 Blazer LS with 97000 miles on it. And it started leaking gear oil at the 4x4 front axle switch. After I remove the switch is all the fluid going to pour out? And is there a seal back there or do I need to replace the seal where the axle housing bolts to the diff?

Thanks for your input...

There is a drain plug I circled in red. There is a fill plug right above it. I've not had one of these out, so I wait for someone else to answer your question, or search around, I'm sure it's in here somewhere.

From the looks of it, someone has replaced that lower bolt. I wonder if they some how damaged the diff housing?

As far as sealing up the leak goes, you should be able to clean it up really well and put some RTV on the faces to seal it up. It's what is most commonly used in those areas. I do believe there was a gasket there from the factory.

How bad is it leaking?

Its not leaking too bad. Only 5 drops on the pavement after driving around. Ill give the RTV a shot, sounds like a good idea. I found out the dealer i bought it from put that bolt in because it was missing. Then i found out they stripped it out because the new bolt has a different thread pattern....

So i will be re-tapping that this weekend.

Thanks for the help...
