Lifter Tapping remedies?

Lifter Tapping remedies?
I searched the forums and have seen a few suggestions. My truck has gotten oil changes with Mobil1 Truck/SUV 5W-30 Super Synthetic and Extended Performance filters since its first oil change at about 2,000 miles as well as Techron in the gas every 3rd fillup. It now has just over 28,000 miles and I have that annoying tapping sound that I have had on my other 4.3L. I have a friend who has an older 4.3TBI with 150,000miles on a C/K work truck and it runs quiet as a BMW. I am wondering if I should switch back to AC Delco filters, as I thought I read somewhere that the filter takes care of this problem. The truck runs great, and I am never hard on it. I have considered an oil additive but dont understand why i should have to. I am not that fond of Lucas, and have no experience using the Mystery Oil. I would like to get some personal use advice. As most everyone knows, that tapping noise is irritating, especially on a low mileage vehicle! thanks

I'm not sure if the noise i have is the same as the one you have... mine was loud until the engine heated up and it got more rapid as i put my foot on the gas. Anyways, adding a liter of the lucas oil treatment at my oil changes worked in the summer but with this latest cooler weather change i put in some royal purple stuff for lifter and valve noise..can't remember the exact name and it worked like a charm.

I am surprised Lucas is my choice year round including my 2 Bmw's (M5-X5) 4Runner and now my Blazer, They are all oh so quiet and much more oil pressure. I use Castrol full sys in all my vehicles w a quart of full syn of Lucas. I've never had any noise w/ this additive even though its not recommended, I'm not a fan of Mobil 1 though. Next time try Castrol full syn.

Ahhh. i was just searching fora similiartopic and found it. Got to love this forum.Just got a little noise after sitting for a while (3 weeks), I was thinking a lifter or valve sticking. Gets a little quiter as it warms and has awesome oil pressure. I'm still so shocked that additives can make a noise go away. I love it. Looks like I'll try Lucas next oil change. Is it bad to use the Lucas in 25-45 degree weather?

No I don't believe so, I use ityear round, and am very happy with it. Some don't like additives but, Lucas is really a good one, they have a display at many auto parts stores how it works. Maybe you can look it up online.
