Default loud fuel pump!

you guys are going to hate me for all the fuel pump threads. my 98 blazer appeared to be running fine, just had a loud pump. while doing the transmission i noticed that the tank was leaking. I replaced the tank and at the same time i replaced the pump with a junkyard unit. the new pump was good and everything was fine... for a few hours. now the new pump is noisy too and sometimes under heavy acceleration it stumbles and runs rough. when i shut the car off and turn it back on the pump is quiet again for awhile. Any ideas? im gonna replace the fuel filter tomorrow and see if that helps, if not il replace the pump again

The fuel pump is basically a motor. With Bearings. Like your heater blower. Or your computer fans. If that helps.
SOME guys on here, you gotta draw a map and then read it to them.

Dunno if you're that way, but YES.. your pump is done.

So.. how much you gonna spend for your pump THIS time?

Just to explain for the nth time, the fuel system on this application is 60 lbs. Most are or were 40 lbs. Almost ANY pump will function at 40 for a while. Most of those will handle 60 for an appreciably SHORTER time. Having to work 50% harder doesnt mean it will last 2/3 the life... it will be much shorter than that.

if you read my post you would notice i did replace the pump. and it appears after running a day in my truck fuel pumps dont seem to work too well. instead of throwing money and parts into it i would like to actually figure out what the issue is. if you dont want to help dont read my posts simple as that.

Where did you get the replacement pump? Just asking because when mine went out I went threw 3 after market pumps from autozone in less then one month till I finally got tired of it. I went and got a pump from GM and it has been good for 2 years now.

I would look on-line for the cheapest Delphi assy or AC Delco repair kit. Delphi is the OEM. Make sure it has the 1x4 pin harness plug with it. If you retain that 2x2 plug, it WILL fail eventually.

I DO want to help. And I read all your posts which is why I made that comment.

Perhaps if you did a search 'fuel pumps' on this site, you would see why that statement is sorta funny.
What I said wasnt personal and I put in a disclaimer about you. But you seem to want to ignore the obvious... IN THIS SYSTEM, USED and CHEAP AFTERMARKET pumps prove the old addage, "you get what you paid for".

I explained why a noisy FP signaled big clue to your other problem.
I explained EXACTLY WHY you cant just throw any fuel pump in there.
- Because I'm a blowhard, I'll explain further. I bought a TBird with about 190k on it. About a month later the FP started howling. From my knowledge of Fords {40 lb system} I knew it was probably an OE Walbro and would continue quite a while before it refused to start. And after that smacking the tank would get it going a while longer. Because the motor itself is strong and 250k on an OE FP isnt unusual. But I changed it anyway because I didnt want the aggro of doing it in the winter.
Notice what I said about additional stress of a 60 lb system. You cant count on any grace period in this truck. And if I put an new OE spec Walbro {or even the famous Walbro 255lph aftermarket pump} in that FP assy, I would not expect to get more than 100k out of it. Probably less.

Seems to me that's a sign of a guy who is trying to help, right?
Yet you respond as if I'd insulted you by throwing a barb at you and running away.

Now if you still think I'm being harsh and unkind, maybe you should go ask someone on Facebook for advice.

i replaced it with an oem unit from the junkyard, if this was going to be my permanent vehicle i would have gone brand new. I replaced the fuel filter today and it made a world of difference. When i tipped the old one out a whole ton of crap flowed out. Took it for a test drive and it was much better, more power and the pump is much quieter

edit: didnt see your whole post, the reason im going the route i am is that i bought the blazer for $500 and putting a brand new $300 pump doesnt make a lot of sense when i only plan to drive it for the winter. I am also under the inpression that neither my old pump or my newer pump was toast, i think they were being overworked by the clogged filter. The newer pump was intermitantly making noise and i was having issues with lack of power intermitantly at full throttle. it seemed hard to believe that both pumps were at the same stage of dying (working but making a ton of noise)

Good points, all.

I have no experience at all with clogged fuel filters.. that is, since I loaned my probe to my kid and he filled it at a 'mom&pop'.. but it took out my cat in 200 miles and only partially clogged the filter. That's ONE in 20+ years. And over 400,000 miles aggregate.
I even quit changing them, cause I always checked and never found the least bit of gunk or restriction. Last Tbird, I drove 160K on it.
That's just me.. I trust my gasoline brand. I do not recommend being filter lax to others.
