Default Mismatched tires

Here is my second question

I have bad left front tire. It is badly worn on the outside edge. I'm thinking alignment as it seems tight when I jack the car up and try to move it. The garage will be able to tell me more when I take it in for the alignment.

My question has to do with the replacement tires. It currently has 235/75R15 on it. I can get two almost new 215/75R15 tires for free. Using the trie size calculator it says these are 1.2 inches smaller than the 235. Would it be a problem putting the two free tires on the front? I would replace both front tires so they would be matched side to side. Or would the smaller tires on the rear be better? Or is it a bad idea all around?

With all the money this car has cost me lately I need to save where I can.

Info: 1995 Blazer LT, 4 Door 4WD, Auto, 160,000 mi, 4.3L type W Vortec engine

Thanks
Mike

If you don't use your 4wd, it won't be a problem, but I would strongly suggest you do NOT try to use your 4wd if you get mis-matched tires.

Thanks. I almost never use 4wd anyway.

Would the front or back be better? Or doesn't it matter?

Put the smaller ones on the front so it doesn't screw up your speedo reading.

I'm not sure if your ABS will complain about it... Can't remember how finicky those older systems were.

Thanks, with free tires the worst I'll lose it the cost of mounting and balancing.

i seen on a newer car where someone put one mismatched tire on the front of a lincoln town car and the car was fine but at highway speeds the abs started acting up. i did this on a old 83 4x4 i had. i just never used 4x4 unless the roads were covered in snow or got stuck
