Is my fuel pump dying??? 99 Blazer
Need help before I get wrenches out...
Last week I parked my 99 Blazer in front of a buddy's house that had pretty steep ditch near the road (both front and back tires on the drivers side lower than the passenger side) so it was leaning hard to the left. Anyway, went to leave and it wouldn't start, about 1/2 tank of fuel in it. I used a rubber mallot and hit the bottom of the tank 5-6 times and it started.
It has run fine for a week with no stumble or problem until today. I left the house and it stumbled a bit on take off until about 25mph then it was fine. In and out of a couple of stores and did the same thing, finally it died in a parking lot when I pulled in. Did the hammer trick again and it started but only ran about 30 seconds. So, I got a gas can and dribbled about 1/4 cup of gas in the throttle body and it started and then stopped. I put the truck in N and pushed it back into a space to come back and tow it home. For giggles I started it up and it kept running. My son followed me home about 10 miles and it ran ok until the last mile from home and it stumbled and died. We towed it from there. I can't hear the pump prime and now it won't start.
Sidenote: The whole time I did not hear the pump as loud as "normal" with it's buzzing sound like it has been. It seems like it has been loud in the 4 months I've owned it no matter how much gas in the tank. I've heard they tend to die when they start to whine.
What do you guys think?

Mine whines all the time and it's a fairly new Delco. They're tons of threads here on how to diagnose the fuel pump but it generally boils down to a fuel pressure test if it's running and voltage and ground tests at the pump if it's not. It could be a relay but from what you described with the mallet it doesn't sound like it.

Mine runs good and once the pump heats up after about 25 miles of driving, it screams very loud and looses pressure. Blazers are known for fuel pump issues, if you can afford to replace it, it may be a great preventative maintenance thing to go ahead and have it done. I'm doing mine next week.

prolly doesnt hurt to try but, mine ran like that a while before the pump died and turned out it was loading up with water. not sure where ya live but cant hurt to try some dry gas.. also, when was the last time ya changed the fuel filter on the frame? just food for thought before dropping $275 on a pump. plus labor.
