So today I was replacing the battery connector bolts and decided to pull the battery tray....and looky there, all hooked up.

Now I know for CERTAIN that's not the myseterious hose's place.

Here's a picture for proof.
Jayke:

That is the front differential lock/unlock switch, it is vacuum operated and the thing connected to it is the cable to the front differential. There should be a vacuum line possibly plastic to plug into that switch from the vacuum ball under the battery tray... if the vacuum line is not connected you will have a vacuum leak and poor performance at idle...since you do not say if the idle is poor then I will ***-u-me that the vaccum hose is hooked up at least before you took this picture. If not then you will need to find the vacuum hose and reconnect it.

Ok, in the picture the vaccum unit you're speaking of is connected....see the hose?

My problem is I have a vaccum line that was disconnected at one point and I have no idea where it goes.

No, the idle doesn't seem too bad. However, it could be so minute that we are used to it![&:]

The "mysterious" hose comes from a 3-way splitter, one way going behind the engine to the driver's side firewall, the other split going in between the battery and wheel well to a switch of some kind.

So at this time, the vaccum hose is still disconnected, the picture was just proof that the diff. switch was in fact hooked up.

I'm not quite sure where it goes.......I know it routes around the back of the negine compartment, follows along the firewall into that big jumble of wires near the master cylinder.....when I get a chance, I'll try at trace it...

I am sure thisthread hasn't been looked at in awhile, but it was very helpful to me- I actually had the same hose that I couldnt figure out either. It does go to the 4x4 device under the battery tray. There is a plastic port on the front passenger side of the device, hard to find but its there... I hooked that hose up to there and now I have 4x4. I used a hose clamp on mine because it seemed to be a loose fit. Hope this helps someone else out!!!
I should have also mentioned that after you hook it back up you have to run the vehicle for a few minutes before the 4x4 will engage.
