Can anyone help identify the disconnected vacuum line in the attached photo below (96 Blazer)? It's near the firewall in the engine compartment between the driver's front fender and the brake booster. I can't find where it's supposed to connect, and have no idea what it helps control.

It goes into the fender Youe cant see it, but you will feel a two inch open and what seems like a threaded bolt on the hole, That is where it connects, A way to test this is if your interior climate fan only blows air through the vents, and not to the floor-that is a common problem when this line is disconnected from the fender,

 

On my 96 that goes to the vac res (black ball) on the driverside of the hood. But, my hose is not that large either.

The Black Ball seems to be the bereft party. I've been raising the hood a bit high for miscellaneous reasons and that seems to explain the disconnect.

I see the problem is solved, but you may want to replace that piece of line, it looks cracked and brittle. Save you a little headache later on

The ball is a resorvoir, It keeps vacuum relatively stable. For examply if it wasn't there and you started up a hill with your 4WD engaged (I see yours is 2wd but the 4WD example is what I Know, haha) the vacuum would change on the engine and the 4WD would kick out because the front axle which is vacuum actuated would lose the vacuum keeping it engaged. It also has to do with your HVAC, but I'm not entirely sure how.

 

Yeah, must be related to the HVAC on mine, 2WD and all. Thanks for the tip. I'm easily spooked by vacuum systems, given experience with 80s Benz diesels. On those, I'm pretty sure the condition of the clear coat and the window tinting is vacuum controlled.

i had the same question for my 95 blazer. my hood was replaced with aftermarket and im guessing he never took off the black ball. so can i just get a black ball resivor from just about any old vechicle? or do i need one that is made for this blazer? my line is plugged off and my heater controls are wacked
