Default Replaced metal brake lines; master cyl/combo value too?

Hello,

I have a '97 Blazer LS. I have a leak in a metal brake line that required me to pull out the air filter to access the line below. When the air filter was out I noticed an electrical part half the size of my fist dangling to the right by a few wires. Can someone identify what it is and where it connects back to?

Default

Almost looks like the center section of an aftermarket alarm horn/siren.

Default Brake problems

Hey all,

So I replaced the brake line in the photo above and had a mechanic replace the other lines. I called him the other day and he told me the lines were fine now, but that a fluid in addition to the brake fluid was in the lines (possibly power steering fluid) and causing the brake pedal not to come back up all the way and be spongy on the way down. His best guess is it's a problem with the master cylinder and combo value; he bled the brakes with a gallon of brake fluid. He recommended I tow it to a dealer to replace them. He said the calipers might be messed up from this fluid as well.

Have any of you gotten used replacement parts for your vehicles? Is this a bad idea?
