There are several things that determine ride quality and handling characteristics on a vehicle. Three of the factors are: The Springs support the weight of the vehicle. The Shocks dampen the action of the springs, and the Aspect ratio of the tires, provide a "cushion" of air for the vehicle to ride on. By far, the biggest contributing factor is the aspect ratio of the tires, (the distance between the wheel and the road). Aspect ratio, (height of sidewall) is a percentage of the tread width. The lower the aspect ratio, the less air there is to "cushion" the ride. The original tires had an aspect ratio of either 70% or 75%. The 20" tires have an aspect ratio of 40% or 45%. The 20" wheels are approximately 34% larger in diameter than the original 15" wheels. As a result, the "cushion" of air has decreased by the same 34%. If you want a softer ride, you need tires with a higher aspect ratio.

Body roll is controlled by the sway bars, which are also taken into consideration during the design process of the suspension. The entire suspension works as a system: If you modify something, ride quality and handling will be affected.

Check the front stabilizer bar. Its quite common for the bolts to break at the ends or the bushings to be worn out.

With 20" rims and assuming a lift kit installed....the ride will ALWAYS be rough and have body roll.
What mods have been done to the suspension? If it was just a bunch of aftermarket parts bolted-on....no suspension system design....you got what you got.

Are the current shocks leaking oil? If not, they are probably doing all they can with the suspension the way it is and new shocks will only lower your bank account.

Want a better ride?...put the suspension back to stock.

Or just enjoy the way it looks and accept the ride it has.
