The check engine light, abs light, battery light, and brake light are on on the dash. The ALDL looks fine and is connected. i dont know where to start under the hood or anything. can anyone offer some advice or tips???? Thanks alot

a communication error could be because the dlc fuse is blown, if you have a test light check for power at pin16 all the time. if not check your fuses. it could be the acc fuse or the cigar fuse depending on the model.

Did your father do a complete motor swap? Was the ECM changed-out as well? If not, was the ECM re-programmed for the new engine? I think at least the ECM will need to be run through the re-learn procedure....do a search and you will find the details.
