Since not replacing a catalytic converter would put you in violation of Federal law, we do not discuss that option on this forum.

Had the exact same thing happen to me not too long ago. Replaced the cat, didn't help. Turns out this truck was a California spec model, unbeknownst to me (cuz I bought it in Jersey) and it had two cats... it was the one in the Y-pipe that was stuffed up. Replaced that as well and it started working fine.

(For a whole two weeks, then the manifold gasket blew out... that's another story...)

maybe the cat was bad for so long that pieces went thru to the muffler and plugged it up, I have heard of that happening as well

Which O2 sensor is broke? If it's the air/fuel sensor then that could cause the truck to run rough. I'd replace the broken sensor first.

My subaru had a similar problem. It would try to stall and run horrible until i went over 3500 rpm. Found the air/fuel O2 was bad.

check the engine oil to see if you can smell gas on 95s you have the central injector which is known for its problems gas in the oil is a telltale sign also check fuel pressure
